REVIEW: AJPW Excite Series 2015 Night 9 [2/20/15]

I've been trying to expand my knowledge of Japanese wrestling beyond NJPW and much like how I will use AAA as my basis for Mexican wrestling there is so much more out there not being explored (by me anyway)    So the answer to some of my questions often times of where certain Mexican wrestlers are is CMLL or other promotions.    As such, when looking for Japanese wrestlers you cannot find in NJPW perhaps you should start with AJPW.

Does anyone else find it strange that the main promotions in Japan are all called the same thing except for the first word?   They're either New, All or Big Japan Professional Wrestling.   Does that just have to do with the English translation?   I can't think of any promotions within the United States that have USA in their name, though that'd be kind of neat, right?   Big USA Professional Wrestling or BUPW?   Mmmm... Perhaps not.

Match One: Naoya Nomura vs. Shigehiro Irie

I'm not familiar with either of these wrestlers I just know from looking at them that Shigehiro Irie is a somewhat large guy with green hair.    He has a singlet and reminds me of anyone from Finlay to Michael Elgin.   I'd expect to see him in a promotion in the United States when they bring over Japanese stars, like how ROH mixes it up with NJPW.   Though I'm pretty sure that Dragon Gate USA is on hiatus I'd imagine he'd show up there.    There isn't too much to say about Naoya Nomura, though he might very well be an accomplished wrestler in his own right, but he felt like a jobber to me in this match and Shigehiro Irie gets the win, which is good because he was the guy right away that I was kind of drawn to and not just because of his green hair but because his style was more hard-hitting in that smash mouth sense.

Match Two: Masanobu Fuchi vs. Yuma Aoyagi

In this match, Yuma Aoyagi had the same problem with me as I did with Naoya Nomura and that is he just looks like a jobber to me without any real sort of reason to be thought of as someone who is going to win.    Masanobu Fuchi on the other hand stands out in this match because he appears to be much older but that just makes me think of the matches from NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 9 and how Jim Ross made such excellent points about how the older the wrestlers in Japan get the tougher they seem to get as well.    It seems to be one of those things in Japan where the longer you've been wrestling- even if you're 60- you are more respected and feared.     So for me this became a story of the veteran taking down the younger competitor.    I remember the match on Wrestle Kingdom 9 being contested under MMA style rules and both of those guys were pretty old so you couldn't pick a winner by looking at them, but I kind of knew going into this that the age would be factor and, yes, Masanobu Fuchi did pick up the win.

Match Three:  Ultimo Dragon / Soma Takao / Yohei Nakajima / Yoshinobu Kanemaru vs. Hikaru Sato / Keisuke Ishii / SUSHI / Takesi Minamino

If you're not here to see Ultimo Dragon then get out now.    I'm not sure who any of the guys that Ultimo Dragon was teaming with were but everyone in this match had a decent showing and it's something worth looking into, making this entire event worth it in ways, even if you're watching it just to see Ultimo Dragon you might make some new friends out of it.

SUSHI is a masked wrestler and so when he came on the screen my three year old pointed and yelled "LUCHA!".   I have trained him well.   Is there a special name for masked wrestlers in Japan?    Aside from SUSHI, who I will now watch matches of just based on his name and that he wears a mask and, um, can wrestle well, there is also Hikaru Sato.    It's not just a Japanese thing but within all of professional wrestling there are wrestlers who you look at and think "I wouldn't want to mess with them".     This doesn't happen as much now as it should and as it did back in the day (WWE totally ruined me on being scared of Bubba Dudley, though I still wouldn't want to confront him face to face about anything) but Sato just has that look about him.    He doesn't look as much like a bodyguard in terms of intimidation but rather as the boss, you know, the guy that when you see him you know it's all over.

Of course when I searched google for him I found pictures of him smiling, looking like a generally nice guy, but when I saw him in this match all I could think was that he's not the type of guy you want to tell "I'm sorry, we ran out of time.  We're going to have to cut your match" or even just "Could you please move your car?  You're blocking me in".

But yeah, Ultimo Dragon's team won and why not because I still love Ultimo Dragon.   I don't think he gets nearly enough credit and that might just be due to the fact that he went to WWE and Jushin Liger never did.

Match Four: KENSO / Akebono / Yutaka Yoshie vs. Go Shiozaki / Kento Miyahara / Zeus

I know enough about Japanese wrestling to recognize the name Akebono and I'm trying not to remember that time he fought Big Show at Wrestlemania in a sumo match because, well, blocking the image of Big Show in a diaper out of my head is something I've been proud of for all these years.    And the KENSO on the same team is also the same Kenzo Suzuki who was once in WWE (in the Rene Dupree days) and then after that went to Mexico.   There was a big celebration before the match for KENSO with huge photo ops and everything so I'm pretty sure going into this that his team will win.

I recognize the name Go Shiozaki for some reason, but otherwise as I'm watching this match I'm learning about each of these guys.    KENSO is still the star.   He's celebrating some kind of milestone here.   A quick google search of "KENSO 2/20/15 AJPW" brings up a Tumblr account saying this is his 15th year anniversary since his debut.   Wow.   Kenzo Suzuki has been wrestling for fifteen years?   Now I really feel old.   (Though he's not as old as CZW he is older than ROH!)

As I was searching for the significance of this match for KENSO, I stumbled upon his Wikipedia page and saw some of the things he's done in professional wrestling post-WWE.   It makes me really want to go out there and track down some of those matches and watch them.   Is there a US release of a sort of "Best of" DVD for KENSO anywhere?   Because I'd need that for sure.

If only to see this monumental moment in the career and life of KENSO you should check this out.    So far, this show has had both Ultimo Dragon and KENSO on it, both of whom I feel make it worth your while to watch even if you've never seen or heard of any of these other names before.

Match Five: Burning Wild (Champions) vs. Evolution *AJPW World Tag Team Title Match*

Burning Wild, the tag champs, is the team of Jun Akiyama and Takao Omori.   Jun Akiyama spent most of his career in AJPW, with a stop off in NOAH, and and his name sounds familiar.     I'm not sure who Takao Omori is exactly.    Evolution is Joe Doering and Suwama and I was kind of hoping that they were either the champs going into this or that they'd win the titles but neither came true, sadly.     I really like the team of Evolution.   I've seen the name Suwama around a lot and feel like he's been in matches I've wanted to watch.    Joe Doering on the other hand is someone I don't quite recognize but he has that size factor that makes him look like a real brawler and it reminds me of Arn Anderson, though he is sporting hair and a mustache like "Stunning" Steve Austin in his WCW days.

According to Wikipedia, Joe Doering was in WWE developmental (when it was FCW) from about February 2010 to September 2010 and he only had two matches.   Prior to that he was in AJPW and afterwards he returned to AJPW so he's kind of an All Japan veteran now too.   I don't know what it is, but this team just seems so cool.   I know it's good for the champs to retain and all, but the idea of Doering and Suwama makes me think of the Killer Elite Squad and the pairing of Doc Gallows with Karl Anderson only not quite the same.

After this match I obviously want to learn more about the tag team champions but I also want to know more about Evolution and watch all of their matches that I can because this just seems like such a great pairing.

Match Six: Kotaro Suzuki vs. Atsushi Aoki *Junior Battle Of Glory 2015 Final Match*

So as this is the ninth outing in this series (yeah, I skipped to the end) there was a tournament going on during the previous nights and this is the finals of it.    I don't really know a lot or anything about either of these two wrestlers but I do know that after seeing this I am now a fan of both of them.    It's kind of strange because during other matches I'd be invested because I knew Ultimo Dragon, KENSO or just liked the look of Evolution.   Here, with this as the main event, I became invested in the match because of the wrestling quality of it.

The match itself had a lot of great moves I've not really seen before and as it came near the end there were a number of near falls that were just sold perfectly.   I wasn't really cheering for either competitor here because as I said I didn't know anything about either of them going in, but I knew enough to see a sequence of moves followed by a kick out to think it should have been three and react as such.

It isn't all that often these days that a match can win me over based on storytelling alone, but the fact that this match could not only do that but do it in another language just speaks for miles about how great a match it was.    I recommend going out of your way to not only see this match but this entire show.    It's well worth your time.

REVIEW: AAA Sin Limite - Naucalpan Enero 23, 2015

I don't quite fully understand the Spanish language, but lucha libre is universal!

This event took place in Arena Naucalpan on January (Enero) 23, 2015 as per the title of this review as well as some google translate help.    I've been watching lucha libre for over ten years, as I found it on television in Texas and when I moved back to Connecticut realized it was on YouTube for free and legally.

Match One: Ludxor / Venum / Dinastia / Ares vs. Carta Brava Jr. / El Apache / Mini Psycho Clown / Ciclope

The fact that Mini Psycho Clown is in this might throw you off and so you'll think it was a match made completely of mini's but some of these luchadores just seem smaller, like in the way that Rey Mysterio isn't as big as Alberto El Patron and yet Rey Mysterio isn't a mini.   Fast paced, high flying.   What you would expect from a ring full of this many luchadores with their abilities to move quickly and sail through the skies.    Carta Brava Jr.'s team picked up the win via pinfall.

Match Two: Australian Suicide / Bengala vs. Pentagon Jr. / Joe Lider

Australian Suicide is one of the worst wrestling names ever.   Why would Australia want to kill themselves?   Bengala is some wonderful mix of Tiger Mask and a kitty cat.   I really wish Lucha Underground would bring in Joe Lider, but I don't want him to be a part of the "master" angle going on with Pentagon Jr.    The team of Pentagon Jr. and Lider has a lot of titles.    Pentagon Jr. is still a heel in Mexico, which translates well from his Lucha Underground character, as if you ever want to know who the rudos are in a match just look for which one has a manager that interferes.    In this case it is Taya who is on the side of Pentagon Jr. and Lider.   We haven't seen her in Lucha Underground and I am not at all complaining about that.      Taya took a nice spot from Bengala but moved out of the way of the double foot stomp from the top rope via Australian Suicide.   Not sure how a wrestler can have "suicide" in their name and be cheered.     Australian Suicide ultimatley hit a very quick top rope move that might have been a shooting star press onto Lider for the win.   It all happened so quickly, but I don't believe any championships changed hands thankfully.   So yeah, let's get Pentagon Jr. with Joe Lider as a tag team in Lucha Underground one day soon.

El Hijo del Fantasma came out to talk.   He looks like the Phantom that was a part of "Defenders of the Earth"/a Billy Zane movie, though he only wears the purple mask not the full purple body outfit.    I'm not sure what he said but he came out to "Welcome to the Jungle".

Konnan was then shown backstage with Pentagon Jr. and Joe Lider when Cibernetico Aguayo came in and put a Singapore cane to his throat and started yelling.     Konnan somehow calmed him down and they were talking about Myzteziz and El Patron.   I don't know why Konnan's two guys just didn't beat up one Cibernetico but oh well.   There are three Hell Brothers and they're up next.

Match Three: La Parka / Jack Evans / Drago vs. Hell Brothers (Cibernetico / Chessman / Averno)

Averno is the Hell Brother I can never remember the name of for some reason.   Hell Brothers should be in Lucha Underground though, just like the Psycho Circus but that might become a bit overwhelming with all those luchadores in an hour long block.    If you don't know who anyone is in this match you should watch it just to learn.   Jack Evans usually tags with Angelico who is in Lucha Underground yet absent from this show.   The Hell Brothers are such a solid unit bringing them into Lucha Underground would be like when The Shield came into WWE because they could just tear everyone apart like a pack of wolves.    At one point La Parka side stepped Chessman as he flew into the turnbuckles and then hit Averno with a tiltawhirl backbreaker.   Wow.   It is worth noting Drago is wearing a gold color scheme in this match as he is normally a light blue in Lucha Underground.    Jack Evans flies onto most everyone on the outside and it's just Cibernetico and La Parka in the ring, arguably two of the biggest names in lucha libre.    The Hell Brothers regroup and with Jack Evans and Drago absent they hit a threeway powerbomb on La Parka for the pin and win.    This one just came down to the numbers game and the Hell Brothers run it better.

Match Four:  Aerostar vs. Monsther Clown vs. Super Fly vs. H. Del Pirata Morgan

Aerostar and Super Fly have both been pretty regular in Lucha Underground now.   Monsther Clown is part of the Psycho Circus and H. Del Pirata Morgan used to be Pirate Morgan I think but otherwise I'm not too familiar with him and don't feel like I've seen a lot of him lately.    Morgan is the only luchadore in this match not wearing a mask.     Monsther Clown and Morgan had a sequence, then left the ring for Super Fly and Aerostar to have a sequence.    Monsther Clown began doing jumping jacks when two other luchadores showed up to stalk the match.    One has sort of spikes in his mask like Hellraiser and the other is in all black so you can't even see a mask or anything.   Not sure who either of them are or if they've been named by name.    The guy in all black takes off his hood to reveal he is Electroshock.      This is apparently Electroshock's heel turn as he was a technico prior to this.  The trio of Electroshock, H. Del Pirata Morgan and someone else I'm not sure of beat down the clown and everyone else really, though it ends with Aerostar getting the pin over Super Fly.    Just like in Lucha Underground, am I right?

Match Five: Myzteziz / Psycho Clown vs. Perro Aguayo / Texano Jr.

Texano Jr. just showed up in Lucha Underground recently but if you go back and watch his feud with Alberto El Patron for the AAA Championship you'll see a lot of Perro Aguayo as they're sort of running buddies.   Psycho Clown is another member of the Psycho Circus while Myzteziz is the former Mistico who went to WWE as Sin Cara and was released when Hunico (who has also been Mistico) took over the role.   Confused?   It's easier if you think of there as only ever being one Mistico but sadly that is not the case and Myzteziz is not Mistico now for a reason.    A results page I just checked via google search won't tell me who the third person from the last match was.   Weird.   Sin Cara is sporting yellow and white tonight.   Umm... I mean Myzteziz.  Boy is that a pain to type.   Reaching for all those z's.    And this match is starting in the stands.   Texano hits Psycho Clown with a trash can.   Perro drops a chair across the back of Myzteziz.   Perro is biting and trying to rip the mask off of Myzteziz.   His mask is coming half off now.   He's like a battle damaged Spider-Man only yellow.  Texano is also trying to get Psycho Clown's mask off.   Interesting that the two rudos don't wear masks and are also going right after them on their opponents.    Perro has some sort of broken glass.  It looks like a bottle neck.   Perro slams Myzteziz's face down into a chair that's set up for sitting and the two technicos in this match are taking a beating with little fighting back.  A "Let's Go Psycho" chant breaks out.    Perro keeps biting Myzteziz.   All four men are outside of the ring and I'm thinking this match has no rules.   Now Myzteziz is back in with the rudos.  Some kind of board is set up in the corner.    Myzteziz gets hit in the opposite corner by Texano but then Perro misses his spot.   Psycho Clown catches Texano and Myzteziz throws Perro through that board.   Texano is out in the crowd and Myzteziz jumps from inside the ring out into the fourth row to get him!   Psycho Clown has the bull rope and is whipping Perro in the ring.    Myzteziz then jumps from the balcony onto Perro and I have no idea how those two guys got so close together when they were in different places before.   This is pure chaos but I love it.   It reminds me of the good old fashioned brawls New Jack used to have in ECW.   Psycho Clown has Texano now.   Texano is in the crowd.   Myzteziz and Psycho Clown are in the ring with Perro.   Myzteziz dropkicks a chair that's wrapped around the ankle of Perro.   Ouch.   The crowd is going wild and Psycho Clown is chasing Perro up the entrance steps with a chair now.   Now he's playing it like a guitar.   Now everyone except Texano is in the ring.  Perro broke a broom stick or something over Perro's back.   Perro and Texano take some time to regroup outside the ring as Myzteziz and Psycho Clown play to the crowd.    I think the match just officially started, as Myzteziz and Texano are in the ring while their partners are on the aprons.   I'm pretty sure the crowd is chanting "Mistico" and not for the first time tonight.   Perro and Myzteziz chop each other silly.   Arm drag by Myzteziz followed by a head scissors that sends Perro back outside.   Plancha.   Now Texano and Psycho Clown are slapping each other.   I love when the commentators yell "Psycho! Psycho! Psycho!" as if it's one big word.   Texano whips Perro by mistake.  And Psycho Clown takes out everyone.   And Psycho Clown with a jump from the top rope onto Texano in the fourth row of his own.   Myzteziz locks an arm bar submission on Perro and he taps for the end of this match.   Wow, who would have thought this would end with a submission hold in the middle of the ring?

Post match Hell Brothers, Fantasma, Pentagon Jr and Joe Lider came out to beat the hell out of Myzteziz and Psycho Clown.    I'm guessing we're going for a Myzteziz/Psycho Clown/Alberto El Patron vs. Hell Brothers match but then again the entire Psycho Circus has fought Hell Brothers and so basically everyone just seems to be at war with everyone else.

This was the first event from 2015 that AAA put up in full and you can watch it on their YouTube page for free right here:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMA4MOXJ3L5K9jKEDyFX6LQ

Until next time... Adios!!

The Wednesday Night War: NXT vs. Lucha Underground Week 2 [2/25/15]

This week I am starting with NXT if only because I am a huge fan of Brian Kendrick so I've been looking forward to this one since I found out he'd be on it.

The opening contest saw Hideo Itami defeat Bull Dempsey.   Funny how Bull has gone from this unstoppable force to an almost jobber though he usually has a fighting chance.   Hiopefully his rut since losing to Baron Corbin goes somewhere bigger and better for him.    After the match Hideo Itami was attacked by Tyler Breeze and apparently this feud is continuing.     As Breeze tried to take a selfie with the fallen soldier Itami managed to get back up and take down Breeze once more, never losing face.     I would have much rather seen Breeze get involved in the match if this is what they were going for because it could have at least prevented Bull Dempsey from taking another loss.

Points Awarded: 5

Next up was the Lucha Dragons vs. Tye Dillinger and Jason Jordan.    Jason Jordan used to be an NXT jobber but apparently they're trying to push him as having some great pedigree or something.   Whatever it is they're trying to do (Shelton Benjamin?) it's not working for me.   Jordan walked out of the match leaving Dillinger to get the loss on his own.    This match was one of those things about NXT that bothers me.   Here we had a victory for the Lucha Dragons, who were really facing jobbers anyway, and yet the Lucha Dragons can go up to the main roster and be treated seemingly like jobbers themselves.    When Titus O'Neil was in NXT for a little bit it was like this: he was supposed to be such a huge threat, but then on the main roster he was jobbed out.    I wish WWE could just have consistency throughout their shows and stop making NXT seem inferior because it isn't.   Heath Slater is bad no matter where he wrestles.   I'm only awarding this one any points because Solomon Crowe cut into the ring entrance of Jordan & Dillinger and said he was going after the NXT Championship.   Remember what happened with the last guy who said that?

Points Awarded: 3

Back from break, Tye Dillinger said he wouldn't leave the ring until Jason Jordan came out to apologize.   Awww, maybe Tye should be moved from NXT to "Total Divas" since he's so butt hurt.    Dillinger said he wanted to know why Jordan did that and someone could very clearly be heard in the crowd yelling, "Because you suck!".   Funny.    Tye said he'd fight whoever had the next match and that brought up the music of Baron Corbin.    So who was Corbin supposed to face?   I'll give this match two points only because Tye Dillinger worked double duty and a jobber has to get paid.

Points Awarded: 2

Charlotte cut a promo where she sounded stoned and said that nothing is guarenteed in life but what is guarenteed is that the title is coming back to her next week when she has her rematch against Sasha Banks.    So how can nothing be guarenteed and then something is guarenteed?   Since The Worst Flair Child has contradicted herself so badly once again I'm actually going to have to take away points now.

Points Awarded: -2

A video package was shown of Sami Zayn on the WWE tour in Abu Dhabi.   I grew up watching "Garfield" cartoons and always thought Abu Dhabi was a made up place because, you know, Garfield's a cat so how could he know of such a random country?    Anyway, Bayley and Becky Lynch had a match next, the fourth of the show now though two and three kind of blended together for me.    I don't know what it is, but there's just something about Becky Lynch that I don't like.

Bayley did the slide through the ring post ropes drop kick type of move ala Sami Zayn only in a... lesser, slightly more awkward way.   Bayley eventually ends up tapping and this match does little for me other than enforce the fact that the guy on commentary who isn't a former wrestler says some really stupid things.   (I believe at one point he said, in reference to Bayley, that "his shoulder" was in a bad way)    This match won't get any points, but I'm also going to do NXT a favor right here also by not taking away any points because of the Rhyno promo that followed.    Wow.   Rhyno needs to let his work in the ring speak for itself.

After an awkward encounter with Jason Jordan we're onto the main event with Kevin Owens on commentary.    The Brian Kendrick does not have his "Hey Yo!" ska type theme song he used to when in WWE before.    I feel like it was earlier this year but it was probably late last year when I just saw The Brian Kendrick in ROH against Adam Cole.   Remember that?    A lot was taken away from this match when Kevin Owens was on commentary because they weren't talking about the match so much as building to a potential feud between Kevin Owens and Alex Riley.    This will only be interesting to me if I can see A-Ry get beaten to a bloody pulp worse than Sami Zayn.

Still, a decent match with #1 Contender Finn Balor getting the victory.   Would have been nice to see Kendrick get a win in his return like Rhyno but you can't win 'em all.   Maybe Paul London can come back too?  The tag team division in WWE would be better with the Hooliganz.     Thankfully the show ended with Kevin Owens coming back out and throwing Alex Riley over the annouce table... I just wish it went into a pit of fire ala Frodo at the end of Lord of the Rings but that might not have been PG.     A good match none the less and it will be awarded points as such.

Points Awarded: 10

Total Points for NXT This Week: 18

Lucha Underground opens with Mariachi El Bronx, who will be here this summer with Gogol Bordello and Flogging Molly.  (!)    The first match was Aerostar vs. Drago in a rematch from not last week but Drago won even though both men shook hands afterwards.     Following a huge leap over the top rope, Aerostar gets the pin and win.    This was just a good back and forth match with high flying, fast paced spots from both.  If I was going to start a wrestling promotion I'd certainly want Drago in it as he has become one of my favorites not just in Lucha Underground but overall.   After the match the two luchadores shook hands.   Dario Cueto appeared and said that since they loved each other so much they'd get the chance to spend more time together.    The two of them were put into a best of five series, as instead of a rubber match the first to have two more victories will get a special opportunity.   How does Drago keep ending up fighting the same guy over and over?   Still, every wrestling show should start this hot.    Everybody take notes.

Points Awarded: 7

Our second match was a non-title match between Prince Puma and Cage.    I've been out spoken about not liking Cage, but this was a good match with a good finish.    There were some believable near falls from both men and I really did think at one point that Cage had this one in the bag only for Prince Puma to kick out.    This was all for a shot at the title and these two men left it all in the ring.   In the end though, Konnan made his return after being taken out by Cage only to throw in the towel for Prince Puma.    So Cage gets his title shot and I have flashbacks to Bret Hart/Owen Hart/Bob Backlund.    At least Konnan didn't throw in the towel during the title match itself, though now I am much more skeptical that Konnan might turn on Prince Puma during the title match and Cage could become the new Lucha Underground Champion.   As much as I don't like that, I loved this match as it had me on the edge of my seat and the seeds being planted make me want to see the title match that much more.

Points Awarded: 8

In an office segment, Sexy Star said she was tired of men coming to her rescue.   Dario Cueto puts her in a match for next week against Big Ryck with the winner getting to face The Crew.   So, wait, the winner has to face three men?   That hardly feels like a prize.    Oh well, Sexy Stars deserves it for not sticking to her rudo roots from AAA Mexico.

Pentagon Jr. then destoryed Vinny Massaro, whoever that is, getting the pin and win then putting him through a table and basically popping his shoulder out as well.     This made Pentagon Jr. look very dangerous while also making him look smart (Smarter than Cage already) as he didn't get disqualified but rather did the real damage post match.

Points Awarded: 4

The fourth match was the main event with Johnny Mundo taking on King Cuerno, as Cuerno had been stalking Johnny Mundo for a few weeks now.    This was a good match in the ring and under its "official" contest, but both men were eventually counted out and the match was ruled a draw.    I assume this means we'll be seeing these two face off again and perhaps Dario Cueto should consider putting everyone in a best of five series.    After the official decision, Mundo and Cuerno kept fighting around the arena and it was madness.    People were gathering around the monitors as Vampiro shook hands with them because they wanted to see what was going on.   Though not exactly the same it had that similar vibe to when all the fans got into the ring in ECW and the ring broke.   It was just one of those chaotic moments that made you happy to be a fan and experiencing this if only on television.    This may or may not lead to a falls count anywhere or last luchadore standing type of scenario for these two, but at the very least it is a nice way to keep Johnny Mundo occupied while not in the title picture.    This was quite possible the best non-finish match I have ever seen.

The Wednesday Night War: NXT vs. Lucha Underground Week 1 [2/18/15]

When WWE moved NXT from Thursday nights to Wednesday nights some people thought it might be in direct competition with what could arguably and easily become the best promotion in the world as they have already possibly become the second best in the U.S. behind WWE.

So from now until the end of time (or when one of the shows should change days) I will try to give a brief recap of both Lucha Underground and NXT by awarding points randomly for each segment and match.   This will help us to calculate who is winning on a weekly basis and overall.   Let's begin!

Right off on Lucha Underground we had Chavo Guerrero Jr. use a chair to get disqualified when facing Mil Muertes.   Chavo Jr. would later on in the show say he's quitting because all of Mexico is still coming for him.   This also put into play a bit of the Mil Muertes/Catrina angle as they are apparently breaking up so despite the finish this was decent.

Points Awarded: 5

Dario Cueto gave a pep talk to The Crew and said that they had been the dominant force he had hired in Lucha Underground since day one.   Even if you've been watching since day one, this was a nice reminder going into their main event match tonight.

Points Awarded: 3

In a bit of an upset (maybe?) Ivelisse said she couldn't watch Son of Havoc lose anymore and challenged Angelico herself.   She got the victory and Angelico made some kind of comment afterwards about how he'd go with her again one on one any time, but in a way that hinted at something sexual.    I'm still not big on women fighting men for reasons previously stated but if they must face each other why not have Ivelisse pin them all?   Ivelisse for Lucha Underground Champion!!  (Yes, she really is that good)

Points Awarded: 15

The third match of the evening saw Texano pin Super Fly and I kind of feel badly that Super Fly was used as a sort of jobber here.   I can't quite put my name on who exactly but it seems like there should have been some former TNA or WWE employee who could have come in and done the job.   JTG?   I want to say Heath Slater but he's still somehow in WWE.   And what about those other guys we've seen in Lucha Underground who are established as jobbers?  Famous B?  Ricky Mandel?   Matt Striker?  Eh, I kid (sort of).   I don't think this did too much damage to Super Fly as we all kind of expected this to happen.   I'm really only awarding this one any points because of the Alberto El Patron beat down that came after the match.

Points Awarded: 3

And in the main event, Sexy Star, Pimpinela Escarlata and Mascarita Sagrada defeated The Crew as Big Ryck looked on near the end and cost them the match.    I'm neither a fan of Sexy Star or Pimpinela but perhaps this victory will send their characters into some sort of direction with meaning and just not as a comedy act.   What would actually be fitting at this point though would be if during their next match they just got singled out and taken out by The Crew.   Really send a message, you know.   Oh well, points for Big Ryck having an eye patch now.

There were four matches on NXT and one main point beside that and, no, I won't be awarding Kevin Owens any points for his "start the show off without any real energy or feeling" promo.   The first match saw the return of Rhyno to WWE (sort of) as he squashed Elias Sampson.     Pretty simple for what it was, but I'd like to see Rhyno work longer matches and against the likes of Kevin Owens, Baron Corbin and who it looks like he's here to feud with: Finn Balor.   I'm also fairly interested in seeing other possible returns via NXT and if it gets older wrestlers (ECW era) back in the door and into the action figure line then it will all be worth it.    Still, despite the buzz there wasn't much to this particular match.   It's more of a reading "Rhyno's back" somewhere than needing to seek out the match and watch it.

Points Awarded: 2

The second match saw Enzo Amore & Big Cass defeat The Vaudevillains which is strange for the VV but good for Enzo & Cass.   It was an all right match, though nothing to write home about, and the post match work by Blake and Murphy, trying to steal away Carmella just seemed... what's a word that has greater magnitude than awkward?

Points Awarded: 3

In the only worthwhile segment of the night Solomon Crowe made his debut (finally) after attacking CJ Parker, who threatened to take the show hostage because he was left off the live special.   Need he be reminded that on the previous live special he got killed by Kevin Owens?   I was happy to see Solomon Crowe but know this was only a moment and when the matches come it will begin to feel much more special.

Points Awarded: 6

In a non-title match new NXT Women's Champion Sasha Banks defeated Blue Pants.   Sasha Banks has potential as champion but I was most excited to see Blue Pants back and in a role that didn't involve Carmella.   Could Blue Pants become a regular in NXT?   I hope so.   She was a great amount of talent and potential.   I don't care about women in wrestling in general but I like Blue Pants and Ivelisse, both of whom I got to see this week on opposite shows.     Let's get this Blue Pants chant started, people!!

Points Awarded: 8

With what was booked as the main event, Kevin Owens defeated Adrian Neville in a non-title match.    This wasn't a bad match and it wasn't great either but I think the biggest let down for me was that it just didn't make sense.    If Adrian Neville pinned Kevin Owens clearly that would put him in contention for a title shot, right?   But Neville just lost a contender match to Finn Balor, um, last week.   More than anything else it's a slap to the face of Finn Balor (and poor booking) because it makes his win seem meaningless as Neville no longer has to go start back down the ladder but rather had the potential right then and there to secure a title shot.    Isn't there someone else Regal could have booked here?  Someone who didn't just lose a chance to get a title shot?   Hideo Itami?   Total lack of logic, which is not typical for NXT.

REVIEW: CZW Sixteen (streamCZW.com) [2/21/15]

Wow.   CZW is sixteen years old.   That's kind of... I don't want to think about it really because it just makes me feel old, but congrats to them and all that.

The show opened with the introduction of Danny Havoc, who has been out for a while with injury.   I said it in my review of "To Live is To Die" and I'll say it again-- if you haven't been following CZW regularly and are tuning in for the first time in five years, ten years or ever, the commentators are there to walk you through what you've missed without insulting the intelligence of the fans who have actually been paying attention.

Danny Havoc, who I vaguely remember from when I was watching CZW regularly, talked about his injury and how he basically has a protege now who goes by Conor Claxton.   There is this whole series on the CZW web site you can watch called "Dojo Wars" and it has the young up and comers featured.    You have to pay, but it doesn't cost as much as the main roster shows.    For some reason it just makes me feel like I wish that WCW had done something similar back in the day with their Power Plant.    And, yes, that was kind of a dig that someone in CZW is smarter than someone in WCW (I assume Eric Bischoff) but we're on the Sixteenth Anniversary show here so I'm not really telling you anything you didn't already know.

Havoc said that he's ready for Claxton to prove himself so he's putting him in a series of death matches because this is CZW after all and his first opponent will be Lucky 13.    Seems like an interesting set up for sure and even if you have no idea who any of these guys are the words "death" and "match" should capture your interest.   Havoc also said there'd be a special ultraviolent match after the main event tonight but I'm assuming it won't be on the actual PPV stream and would rather be what the kids call "the dark main event".

Match One: Pepper Parks (w/ Cherry Bomb) vs. Buxx Belmar

A lot of the commentary on this- and even the  psychology in the match itself- came from the fact that Cherry Bomb is this pure and clean being while Buxx Belmar is filthy and as such the two should not touch.    Pepper Parks played up being afraid of touching the dirty Belmar, but most people play that up so that didn't have the same effect as Belmar chasing and taunting Cherry Bomb.

On a side note to this match: I tried to watch this pay-per-view once (At least I think it was originally on PPV) and I'll call them out by name, why not, because this is the only way they'll ever be "reviewed".   It was PWS and it was a women only card and someone (maybe them, maybe not) has it uploaded in its entirety for free on YouTube so I watched the first two matches and then shut it off.   That's one of the only ways (Aside from last month's CZW PPV) I really know who Cherry Bomb is, though I see her name around within a lot of the legitimate women wrestling promotions that I always want to dive into but never know quite where to begin.  (One day, I will buy Shine 1, I swear)

Oh, so that PWS "Bombshells" show or whatever it was called just felt rather sexist to me and yes I am saying that about a professional wrestling event where often times men are portrayed as being greater than women anyway.   One example I remember was a wrestler getting hit in the crotch and the commentator said something about her getting hit in the "snatch" and I just thought, "Yeah, but you wouldn't be using such terms if it was a guy" because how many times have you heard that a guy got hit in his dong or other names for the penis?   Plus I was just really sick of the commentators constantly saying how hot they thought the women were-- it took away from the match itself.   And as I'm taking away from this match by mentioning this Cherry Bomb relation I shall get back to the CZW now.

Pepper Parks is beginning to grow on me as a character.   I've only ever heard of him in name before my renewed interest in CZW this year, but his character is interesting enough and he has the athleticism to back it up.  I also like that he has a signature move called the "Pepper Shaker".     So this was a kind of back and forth match that had some very close near falls by Parks.     By the end, Buxx somehow got Cherry Bomb alone in the ring, took her shoes off and shoved her toes into his mouth as the crowd chanted "You sick fuck!" at him.    This might seem a little too obvious somehow, but why didn't Cherry Bomb just kick him in the face?   Was I the only one yelling "Kick him!" at my television during that part?

From sucking on toes to getting the pin, this match was good for Buxx Belmar and actually a nice opening to the show as you didn't need any background on the characters to know what was going on as the story told itself.    If I didn't say it during "To Live is To Die", can I know mention that Buxx dresses and paints his face like N8 H8TRED?   Is there any connection there?

Match Two: Sozio vs. Joey Janela

Joey Janela is from the Dojo as well.   Sozio lost a title shot against BLK JEEZ last month and even got hung from the ring ropes, which the commentators did an excellent job of reminding us about.    So my question right now- and this might seem like a dumb question- but what am  I supposed to be doing between CZW PPVs?   Is there a television series every week on their website like ROH?   Do I just follow along on their website with results from non-televised events?    I did pay attention to the card going into this and the commentators made mention of Sozio's mean streak since losing at "To Live is To Die", but this match is also a Best of the Best Qualifying match (the first one was as well, I realize now that I forgot to mention that in there because I got side tracked)   Not everyone is going to be in the Best of the Best tournament, I assume, so what did Sozio do to get a shot to be involved?   You know, other than losing a title match last month.

Sozio works hard.   He seems like a lot of his chops are stiff.   Joey Janela didn't really strike me as anything too special when the match first started, as he looks like he could be a jobber somewhere else, but the fact of the matter is he took a high risk move to the outside in this match that I'm not going to describe for you because you need to watch this for yourself and then later you can send me your emails and say, "Yeah, you were right, thank you".     In a surprising turn of events, Joey Janela actually managed to get the win here but it did come from a little help from The Front, which is stable that Sozio used to be the leader of but he no longer is.    Once again, hats off to the commentators for explaining all of that.

So thus far we have Buxx Belmar and Joey Janela in the Best of the Best Tournament.   Could this be Buxx's year??  This dirty kid is kind of growing on me.

Next up was an in ring interview with Alex Colon where he was asked about breaking Preacher's neck.   In typical cocky heel fashion, Colon denied any responsibility and issued an open challenge answered by... Drew Gulak!!

Match Three: Alex Colon vs. Drew Gulak

This was just a beating.   I remember Gulak coming out at "To Live is To Die" and issuing a beat down but this was just a whole other level of beating someone down.    Off the top of my head, I'm struggling to think of anyone else who has had this type of impact for coming out and just kicking someone's ass.   I'm sure there's someone out there either currently or in the past, but I just can't think of them off hand.    Baron Corbin in NXT isn't quite the same as this.    Samoa Joe was never quite the same as this.   Perhaps the closest thing I can think of is Awesome Kong now that she's back in TNA, but that might not be completely accurate either.    Drew Gulak is just in a league of his own and I would love to see this guy wear gold in 2015.    (No disrespect intended to BLK JEEZ, but I'd love to see Gulak vs. Joe Gacy)

Have we determined whether or not Alex is part of the Famous Fighting Colon Family?  You know, Carlito and all that?   No?  Didn't think so.

Match Four: "Bulldozer" Matt Tremont vs. Stockade *Ultraviolent Match*

This match was set up at "To Live is To Die" and I actually like the idea of these two guys going at it.    Matt Tremont brought some barbed wire down with him.     This did not work to his advantage.   These two fought around the ring, inside and out, and as much as I'd like to say it was a well contested battle between both me Stockade just put the whoopin' on Tremont.     It almost felt like Stockade dominated especially because he came out of the match seemingly unscarred where as Tremont was a bloody mess.

I remember at one point during the match there was an attempted pin fall and the ref broke it up because there was a foot in the rope.   One of the commentators mentioned that since this was an ultraviolent match there should not be a break for the foot in the rope, but does that mean ultrviolent matches are also falls count anywhere?   I was under the impression you still had to pin them in the ring.

Following the match, after Stockade had gone to the back, Matt Tremont issued the challenge/booked the match for the March PPV, 'Deja Vu" of Stockade vs. Matt Tremont in a no rope barbed wire match.   Yeah, my three year old won't be watching that one with me.

Intermission was up next and though there were some songs there were also clips of an interview with BLK JEEZ which is from what I assume is a DVD available from CZWrestling.com in some sort of shoot series.    I don't care what anyone says, Blink 182's "Dude Ranch" is still a solid album after all these years.

After intermission Tim Donst was announced and he basically explained his situation which I had read about earlier.     Aside from his appearance at "To Live is To Die" I remember Tim Donst as that kid in amateur wrestling gear in Chikara and now there's a chance he might never be able to wrestle again?   It's just a horrible situation that I hope somehow works itself out and Tim Donst is able to continue his in ring career.

Match Five: "Speedball" Mike Bailey vs. "Chainsaw" Joe Gacy *CZW Wired Championship Match*

Interestingly enough, Tim Donst is sitting in on commentary and after his confrontation with Joe Gacy last month I'm wondering if this is all just some wonderful work.    It's most likely not, but wouldn't it be something if Donst attacked Gacy after the match?

Okay, so that didn't happen.   This isn't fantasy.   It's reality.   And reality just sucks sometimes.

This was actually a really good match because Mike Bailey is quick and he has rapid fire kicks that can seemingly hurt.    When I see Joe Gacy I think of this guy who is big and can use his size to his advantage obviously, but he also can move well for a big man and that makes him that much more dangerous.    Yes, Joe Gacy remains my favorite part of CZW.    But you have a viable factor in Mike Bailey being able to use those kicks to chop down Gacy and his speed can also perhaps out-manuever Gacy so as to give him an advantage.

Really that's all well and good on paper, and as you think about it during this match, but would it be unfair to Bailey to say that in this match Joe Gacy squashed him like a bug?    Joe Gacy just continues to prove why he is not only my favorite wrestler in CZW but one of my overall favorite wrestlers right now.  Wow.  Just wow.   You should be watching CZW if only to see "Chainsaw" Joe Gacy.

Oddly enough, the commentators noted something that I didn't know before the match (Take notes: every other commentator ever) and that is that Joe Gacy was on the verge of being fired prior to his turnaround in 2014 which got him to the Wired Championship and basically where he is now.   Storyline or not, the fact that he was once so far down the roster just make where he is now that much more impressive.

During this match, well, when the match started rather, I also thought that if I had a theme song as a professional wrestler I would most likely choose the same Deftones song as Joe Gacy.   (Really, Pepper Parks, that Imagine Dragons song is just ridiculous)   Oh, and Gacy won by submission.

Match Six: The Beaver Boys & Chuck Taylor vs. Team Tremendous & Dick Justice *Tables Elimination Match*

This time around I paid attention and learned that Dan Barry is the smaller of the two guys on Team Tremendous.    Before the match, The Beaver Boys noted that their scheduled tag team partner couldn't be there and so they brought out Chuck Taylor as a sort of member of their family.     The show was coming straight out of New Jersey and as someone who lives in Connecticut (I know, I know, laugh it up) I can tell you that the snow was pretty awful here on Saturday night.   We were heading home when it really started and you'd leave your car for five seconds and it'd be covered in snow again, so yeah, this crowd is hardcore for being there tonight as are all of these wrestlers and everyone else involved because I wouldn't have even gone down the road in the snow, haha.

The commentators made mention at one point of how they wouldn't touch the idea of a joke of Dick Justice being left alone with the Beaver Boys as this was an elimination match and I do thank them for that.    They also referred to Johnny Silver as an "unfrozen caveman wrestler" which had me laugh out loud.

At one point during the match, Dick Justice set up a table in the corner and yelled "I got wood!" to which the crowd replied with a chant of "He's got wood".   But as seems to be the case with wrestlers and their weapons the time it took Dick Justice to set up the table and all only allowed for him to be put through it because, yes, whenever a wrestler has a weapon in wrestling it seems to only ever be used against them.

Chuck Tayor earned his paycheck in this match by taking a sick move through a ladder, which was noted by the commentators that had it been a table he would have been eliminated from the match.    Johnny Silver ended up winning the match as he put Dan Barry through a table by jumping off of a ladder and giving him the double foot stomp.   Ouch.

I know it seems strange to think of Team Tremendous and/or The Beaver Boys as a comedy act since they're in a tables elimination match here, but this match was just a lot of fun.    I'm not sure exactly what these wrestlers should be doing to make them seem like the traditional sense of fun, like Chikara would have, but this was just a whole lot of fun because it had the tables (and ladders) in it.

Match Seven: BLK JEEZ vs. Chris Dickinson *CZW World Championship Match*

The commentators plugged the BLK JEEZ DVD as being available on DVD and coming soon to streaming.   For the record, Chris Dickinson defeated Buxx Belmar last month who is now in the Best of the Best Tournament while BLK JEEZ defeated Sozio who did not qualify for Best of the Best.     Chris Dickinson looks like Rhyno in his face even though he is the "Dirty Daddy".      Also I feel it is worth noting that it is strange that this is going on before the Tag Team Championship match but I assume that has something to do with the Young Bucks.

Unlike last month when BLK JEEZ pretty much dominated Sozio this was a strong, competitive back and forth match between BLK JEEZ and Chris Dickinson.   I have this notion going into the Tag Team Title match that the Young Bucks won't win because they're more of a special attraction if you will, but there isn't really a reason why Chris Dickinson shouldn't be CZW Champion and a lot of that came into play in this match with several near falls that did have me thinking new champion.

At the end of the day though, BLK JEEZ is still your CZW World Heavyweight Champion after pinning Chris Dickinson.    The real story here came after the match as Chris Dickinson got on the mic and cursed out everyone he could.   He said when he was fighting for the title he got side tracked and BLK JEEZ swept in and took it, so he rightfully should be champion, which the commentators solidified as a valid point.

Dickinson basically told Philly to fuck off and left, but BLK JEEZ picked up the mic as he stormed off and told Dickinson (who was already gone) that nobody insults his city.   BLK JEEZ says he knows about the politics and encouraged fans to buy his shoot DVD at the merch table.     BLK JEEZ then said that at "Deja Vu" they can have a rematch for the title which I guess is why it'd be called "Deja Vu".

It's kind of funny though because there weren't really any questions in my mind about that victory from BLK JEEZ over Chris Dickinson.    There wasn't a cheap roll up or anything that would have made you go, "Yeah, Dickinson had that much won until..." and then something happened that didn't involve BLK JEEZ beating him.   BLK JEEZ won a great back and forth contest and Dickinson just comes off as sour grapes so I don't know if it's in the best interest of BLK JEEZ to give him a rematch (he beat him fair and square)

Giving into that psychology of the challenger has often left the champion without their title so it will be interesting to see what happens with BLK JEEZ at "Deja Vu".    There weren't any gimmicks announced either, which was kind of strange, but these two can deliver without having to be ultraviolent so why not.     I'm confident that BLK JEEZ and Chris Dickinson can put on an even better match at "Deja Vu" and this one was highly entertaining.

Match Eight: Ohio is 4 Killers vs. Young Bucks *CZW Tag Team Championship Match*

There were some "Young Bucks" chants before introductions.   So am I the only one pulling for O!4K then?   The commentators said the Young Bucks were the best tag team in professional wrestling today but I believe reDRagon would have to disagree.    Young Bucks came out to "MmBop" (Yes, really) while the commentators said why some people don't like the Young Bucks.   I really just don't like them because they remind me too much of a Hardy Boyz rip off, so there's that fact which went unmentioned.

This is interesting though because it is a match with both tag teams being brothers, so there is that.    I had to look up why the Young Bucks had gold but apparently they defeated reDRagon for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship on February 11th at an event called "The New Beginning in Osaka" which, yes, I will be watching now and you can possibly expect a review of eventually as well.

At one point, the ref dove outside onto all four men.   When he was trying to celebrate back in the ring all four men came in and gave him a fourway super kick.   The crowd began chanting "This is awesome" and another ref came down.   Not sure why they had that ref spot but it was pretty funny.

One of the Young Bucks hit a standing moonsault as the other flew over the top rope at the same time onto Jake Crist.    That was a nice move but only got a two count.   With Matt Jackson isolated (Nick took a powder), O!4K hit The Killing Spree for the pin and win.  Wow.   I still don't like the Young Bucks but that was one hell of a match.

Fast paced and full of kicks and knees this was perhaps one of the best examples of tag team wrestling today.    I've been struggling a lot lately with the idea of whether or not I like tag team wrestling because I felt a lot of it became too formulaic but there was nothing traditional about that match.

As much as I'm a fan of "Chainsaw" Joe Gacy and as much as I enjoyed the CZW World Title match, the main event delivered one of the best matches of the year so far, on par with anything from Wrestle Kingdom 9 and certainly the best match in CZW so far this year.    Definitely a show worth checking out if you haven't yet as CZW only seems to get better for me.

On an end note for this month, Ring of Honor recently announced they'd be getting action figures for the first time this year and it kind of makes me wish that CZW had action figures as well.   Series 1, which would consist of six figures in theory, could easily be BLK JEEZ, Joe Gacy, Drew Gulak, Ohio is 4 Killers and let's say a flashback to... Necro Butcher?   Think about it, CZW.

The Case of Brock Lesnar vs. Sting (In Lieu of Fastlane Predictions)

Instead of writing predictions for WWE's Fastlane, which seems to be a foregone conclusion at this point, I'm going to instead say something that I feel needs to be said about the career choices made by Sting so far in WWE.   This can only, obviously, be coupled with the contractual obligations of Brock Lesnar as I feel that the two who have chosen similar paths- limited appearances- have managed to do so both in the good and the bad.

For starters, I love the fact that Brock Lesnar works limited dates for WWE.   If you think of any time that John Cena, Randy Orton or whoever else has been champion the past few years held the title and was available each and every day to talk about it and all that... It took something away.   It made them feel less special.   It made them feel like, to use WWE terms, just another superstar.

The fact that Brock Lesnar doesn't appear on every show and when he does it feels like a big deal is important because he is the WWE Champion and their champion should be treated as such.   When John Cena was champion, for example, he'd have an issue with Randy Orton and then Dean Ambrose was feuding with Seth Rollins so on Raw we'd see Cena/Ambrose vs. Orton/Rollins.   Can you picture Brock Lesnar in such a pointless endeavor?

Another glaring fact that makes me hate the "Eat Sleep Leave Repeat" signs comes after watching the latest episode of ROH TV, the one with the six person main event.    For those who missed it, the Briscoes and ODB took on The Kingdom which is Michael Bennett, Matt Taven and Maria (Yes, that Maria)    I believe it was Steve Corino who asked on commentary what would happen if Maria pinned Jay Briscoe, the current ROH Champion.

In my younger years, when I first started watching professional wrestling, I'd think "Yeah, that'll never happen".    And now all I can think of is that Jay Briscoe, as ROH Champion, shouldn't be put into a situation where he could be pinned by someone who is nowhere near being close to in line for a title shot.   Or in simpler terms: bad booking.

As much as I feel like the limited dates thing works for Brock Lesnar, I feel as if it has the opposite effect with Sting.    While Sting made his WWE in ring debut (by appearing, not wrestling) at the Survivor Series and is expected to be at Wrestlemania vs. HHH, then what, that five month stretch he couldn't spend some time with the company?

When they brought out Ric Flair to address the situation with Sting it began to sink in.   HHH: this is your life.    They don't want to waste any Sting appearances so they're going to do what they can to build this feud without having Sting, who is a key component in it, actually be around.    So, what's next?  An appearance by Shawn Michaels?  Hulk Hogan?  Harley Race?

It doesn't really matter because all I can think is about how much better this feud would have been if Sting was in that ring confronting HHH each and every week, not worrying about burning off appearances.    It's what he did when he was in WCW and, hell, it's even what he did in TNA so why can't he do the same justice for what is considered to be the biggest moment of his career?

Look, Brock Lesnar has been around for long enough and having Paul Heyman as his mouth piece has been fun enough that it has worked perfectly for me.    I'm actually really going to miss how this dynamic has played out if/when Brock Lesnar decides to leave WWE after Wrestlemania or at least lose the title to Roman Reigns, who will be in pointless matches week in and week out just like Cena and everyone else... everyone else except for Brock Lesnar.

Sting, on the other hand, almost feels entirely too much like he will be done in the ring after Wrestlemania.   And who knows, he might not be.   He might come back next Wrestlemania if the cards play out somehow.    Maybe he'd even face Seth Rollins at Summerslam.   In a perfect world.   But in a perfect world WWE wouldn't have to worry about using up Sting's limited appearances because he would be committed to doing whatever it takes to make this run his best run ever.
